Episode #4: The power of feeling the fear and doing it anyway: lessons from parkour with Julie Angel
Fear is an innate survival instinct that is in fact essential for our well-being. Early experiences and societal norms shape our perception of fear. My guest today, Julie Angel was invited to challenge her own fears on the other side of her camera, by trying out the parkour skills she had been filming. She soon realised it was helping her to confront and overcome her fears by reimagining their environment and developing physical and mental strength.
In this conversation we discuss the part emotional has to play in movement; how fear can impact our ability to explore and connect with our own bodies and conversely how emotions such as fear, excitement, and joy are all part of our experience to be embraced.
Julie shares her insights on how to analyse and work with fear, including setting small goals, and celebrating effort, the role of supportive partners and the power of visualisation.
I hope you enjoy this in depth conversation, with the main takeaway being the importance of making friends with fear and to embrace your journey of self-discovery through movement.

More about your host, Wendy
Wendy (49) founded Reclaim Movement after a running injury at 40 turned into 4 years of chronic pain. In her search for answers and to reclaim her own movement again she discovered natural movement. The philosophy of training real life practical movements to be able to keep using them as we age, coupled with the benefit of using strengthening and mobilising whole-body movement patterns that are underused in today’s modern world made her realise she had found a way to move for life.
Wendy’s aim is to help people embrace a movement-rich life, at any age, to improve mobility, strength and confidence to keep moving well and doing the things they love for as long as they want.
MovNat Level 1 certified & Functional Range Conditioning certified, she coaches online group classes live & by replay in the Reclaim Movement membership as well as online and in-person private coaching in Oxford.
