Episode #12. A decade of chronic pain & immobility, to thriving in a year: the power of natural movement & holistic healing with Samphire Hayes

In the second episode of season 2, I have a conversation that resonated very strongly with my own experience of pain and recovery.

Samphire Hayes reached out to me about her story and I replied immediately. We share a story of chronic pain and of having to search for why our bodies were reacting that way.

Our solutions were similar in terms of adopting a natural movement lifestyle and Samphire went even further to uncover her own story, by studying and adopting new practises she had never heard of before. Like myself, she has now chosen to use her learning and insight to help others.

This conversation explores the experience of living with chronic pain and the journey towards building strength and finding hope. We talked about the link between chronic pain and trauma, as well as the impact of chronic pain on mental health. We cover the importance of self-advocacy, the power of small movements, breathwork and mindfulness and more, and the key moment when Samphire chose to ‘ditch the sofa’ that had been her prison.

About this week’s guest:

Samphire Hayes

Sam spent over a decade battling chronic pain in her 30’s whilst raising two young children. Frustrated by the lack of support from conventional medicine, she embarked on her own journey to find relief. Through exploration of various techniques such as ground sitting, natural movement, natural nutrition, mindfulness, nature immersion, and breathwork, Sam gradually reclaimed her health. From relying on a mobility scooter to get out with her children, she has transformed her life and is thriving- even completing marathons. Today, Sam is a dedicated psychotherapist and natural lifestyle coach. This year, she founded The Holistic Pain Clinic, providing coaching support to others facing chronic pain. Drawing from her own experiences, Sam tailors her approach to incorporate the methods that led to her own transformation. With a heartfelt passion, Sam guides others on their healing paths, offering hope and empowerment as they rewrite their stories of chronic pain.

More about your host, Wendy

Wendy (49) founded Reclaim Movement after a running injury at 40 turned into 4 years of chronic pain. In her search for answers and to reclaim her own movement again she discovered natural movement. The philosophy of training real life practical movements to be able to keep using them as we age, coupled with the benefit of using strengthening and mobilising whole-body movement patterns that are underused in today’s modern world made her realise she had found a way to move for life.

Wendy’s aim is to help people embrace a movement-rich life, at any age, to improve mobility, strength and confidence to keep moving well and doing the things they love for as long as they want.

MovNat Level 1 certified & Functional Range Conditioning certified, she coaches online group classes live & by replay in the Reclaim Movement membership as well as online and in-person private coaching in Oxford.
